the Nokia 6350 is for a wide audience of users. We researched and found that Battery Life, ergonomics and comfort for young and old alike were factors that we needed to consider for the design. People also wanted to take pictures, listen to music, text and make audio calls.
To address ease of use, The chrome ‘bevel’ area is designed so people can insert a finger in between and easily ‘flip’ the phone open.
The phone opens into a single smooth continuous form to improve comfort on a voice call.
Pictured here, the inside black area has a ‘yin-yang’ surface. It pillows at the earpiece for comfort against the ear, and cups where people hold the phone so it does not slip out of the hand.
The experience of playing music, checking the time and taking a picture needed to be accessible without opening the phone. This was possible with a front facing screen, camera and media buttons.
The keymat uses tactile surfacing and visual ‘groupings’ to help people easily find the keys.
